Police yesterday said it has received information that some fraudsters are planning online scams with the intention of embezzling money from young people on Valentine’s Day.
Police Media Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said information has been received that some fraudsters are planning to send online messages asking people to make cash deposits to a delivery service in order to receive a gift sent by their loved ones. DIG Rohana requested the public not to be fooled by such tricks.
Police investigations have revealed that the fraudsters will disconnect their online connections as soon as they receive money from a person.
Police intelligence has revealed that there is also a tendency to hold various illegal parties on Valentine’s Day through social media networks or via email and the Police Media Spokesman requested the public to refrain from attending such parties which violate health guidelines and quarantine laws.
