Early childhood education to be regulated

The Cabinet of Ministers approved a proposal made by Education Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris to appoint a committee to manage and the regulate the country’s early childhood education. Co-Cabinet Spokesman Plantations Minister  Dr. Ramesh Pathirana said a committee called ‘National Committee for Management and Regulation of Early Childhood Education’ comprising intellectuals in the field and the officials at decision making levels will be appointed to take decisions with regard to the regulation supervision and guidance of early childhood development centres and day care centers in order to maintain the standards of the sector.

Addressing the weekly Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department, Minister Pathirana said that according to the legal framework currently prevailing in the country, the early childhood education methodology of Sri Lanka is operated with a coordination across several institutional structures across several institutional scopes with the central government and provincial councils.

Considering this, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal made by the education minister to appoint this committee.
