Infrastructure facilities at tourism zones to be developed

The Government has decided to develop infrastructure facilities at tourism zones across the country, Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said.

Accordingly, access roads inside and outside of the zones, bridges, information centres and sanitation facilities will be built at tourism zones islandwide.

This infrastructure development project will take place at existing tourism zones and emerging tourism destinations.
Minister Ranatunga was participating in the ceremony to initiate the construction of a new access bridge to the Gampaha, Asgiriya, Henarathgoda Botanical Gardens today. The estimated cost for the project is Rs.67 million.

The bridge which is 30 metres in length will be built over the Attanagalu Oya to access the botanical gardens from Gampaha-Jaela main road.

Minister Ranatunga further said infrastructure facilities at tourism zones will be improved under several programmes such as 100,000 kms of road development project, 5,000 bridges development project and the rural bridges development projects initiated by the Government.
