No new power stations in eight years: Dullas

No new power stations have been set up during the past eight years, Power Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said. He said so participating in a recent development committee meeting held at the Thihagoda Divisional Secretariat Auditorium.

The minister said that LED bulbs would be provided to people under the Thihagoda Urban Development Project, and that Highways Minister Jonston Fernando plans to open the Southern Expressway’s Kapuduwa Interchange before the upcoming Sinhala and Tamil Year.

Alahapperuma also highlighted the need to develop the marshlands near the Matara – Kamburupitiya Road in order to turn them into botanical gardens and parks.

He added that a water project for Yatiyana was also on the cards.

Over 43 families in Thihagoda without electricity and 273 more without toilets are also to be provided with the necessary facilities soon, Minister Alahapperuma said.

Minister’s Coordinating Secretary S. Hadunge, Thihagoda Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Nirmal Samarasinhe, and Divisional Secretary Umesha Matarage were also present.
