Thirty road deaths in two days

Thirty persons had been killed and 150 persons had sustained injuries in road accidents within two days, Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said yesterday.

Sixteen deaths were reported on Thursday, and eight of those fatalities had happened due to the road accidents that occurred on that same day and the other eight fatalities had occurred due to road accidents on the Sinhala and Tamil New Year Day.

DIG Ajith Rohana said that 12 of the deceased were motorcyclists. Among the deceased were two passengers, one pedestrian and a motorist.

He highlighted that Sri Lanka has recorded the highest number of road accidents on April 14 and April 15, adding that 14 deaths were reported on Wednesday.

He also noted that there may be an increase in the number of road accidents occurring during the weekends and requested drivers and pedestrians to take precautionary measures to prevent such accidents.
