Maharagama UC female members clash: One arrested

A female member of the Maharagama Urban Council (UC) has been arrested for assaulting another female Urban Council member on April 15.

Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said that following a complaint received by the Maharagama Police,  the 49- year-old alleged perpetrator was arrested by the Police and produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

She was released on two sureties of Rs.200,000 each by the Nugegoda Magistrate Prasanna de Alwis.

“The victim had been admitted to the Sri Jayawardenapura General Hospital for treatment due to severe pain in her arm and abdomen,” Police said.

“When she attended the funeral of a retired Deputy Urban Councillor at the Godigamuwa Public Cemetery in Maharagama on April 15, the perpetrator had approached and pushed her away after an argument over a development project,” Police said.

The victim had stated that she went home after the incident which took place at around 5.30 p.m. and was admitted to the hospital at around 9 p.m. due to abdominal pain. Maharagama Police are investigating.
