Ramanna Chief Prelate welcomes Govt’s decision to convey facts on Port City Bill

Sri Lanka Ramanna Nikaya Chief Prelate Most Ven. Makulewe Wimala Nayake Thera said that the Maha Sangha appreciates the Government’s decision to convey the true facts with regard to the Port City Economic Commission Bill to all religious leaders.

The President’s decision to make aware the Maha Sangha and other religious leaders regarding the Port City Economic Commission Bill is highly appreciated since there are various allegations and rumours about the Bill, the Chief Prelate said.

Most Ven. Makulewe Wimala Nayake Thera has expressed these views to State Finance Minister Ajith Nivard Cabraal and Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga when they visited Maha Nayake Thera to brief him about the functions related to the Port City on the instructions of the President.

State Minister Cabraal told the Maha Nayake Thera that the Port City will be vested only with the Government of Sri Lanka and no one else.

“Moreover, all other laws applicable to Sri Lanka will be in effect within the Port City as well. Therefore, it is wrong to misguide the people by saying that the Port City is a separate entity free from the Parliament’s monetary power,” he has added.

Tourism Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said the Bill has been challenged in the Supreme Court. Therefore, there is no need to cause any unnecessary panic regarding the Bill.
