COVID situation closely monitored – Minister Keheliya

The Government is closely monitoring developments related to the spread and prevention of the coronavirus and making appropriate and timely decisions to stop the further transmission of the virus in the country, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

He was responding to a journalist at the weekly Cabinet media briefing yesterday at the Government Information Department.

The Government holds discussions with the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on the COVID-19 developments and the decisions that need to be made to prevent the spread. Zonal and area-wise lockdowns are sufficient at the moment to curtail the spread of the virus.

“The decision may change in the future depending on the situation of the country at that time. If the need arises, the Government will go for an islandwide lockdown at any time,” he said.

Minister Rambukwella said that the situation in Sri Lanka will not turn out like India since almost all the people in this country are very well aware about the way they should behave during a pandemic, he said.
