SP receives Rs. 100 m for medicines, medical equipment

Rs. 100 million has been allocated for supplying medicines and setting up wards at hospitals in the Southern Province for COVID patients, Southern Province Governor Dr. Willy Gamage said.

Southern Province Director of Health Services will receive the fund. A committee headed by the Southern Province Chief Secretary has been appointed to procure medicines and other medical equipment, the Governor said.

The wards will be reserved until COVID patients at hospitals are taken to treatment centres. Special problems faced by the officials will be settled and 450 beds will be allocated for COVID patients.

The Akmeemana National College of Education has been selected for the purpose. The Police have been instructed to make the public aware of health regulations. There are 50,000 public servants in the Southern Province and only a half of them have been called for work, the Governor said.
