AG wishes to remain in Sri Lanka to serve public

Attorney General Dappula de Livera has been appointed as the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Canada by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said the Attorney General has thanked to the President for his appointment and has conveyed to the President that he wishes to remain in Sri Lanka to serve public.

Attorney General Dappula de Livera has declined the offer by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to be appointed Sri Lanka's High Commissioner to Canada.

Attorney General's Coordinating Officer State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne said the Attorney General had thanked the President for his appointment and has conveyed to the President that he wishes to remain in Sri Lanka to serve the public.

Attorney General Dappula de Livera was appointed as the acting Attorney General on April 29, 2019 by former President Maithripala Sirisena and his appointment was confirmed on May 7, 2019 by the Consitutional Council and sworn in on May 10, 2019.

The Attorney General is due to retire on May 24, 2021.
