All schools, pre-schools, universities and tuition classes in the country will remain closed until further notice due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, said the Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris.

Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris stated that all schools, pre-schools, Pirivenas, tuition classes and universities will remain closed until further notice due to the current COVID-19 pandemic situation.
Speaking to the media yesterday, he stated that the decision was taken due to the enhanced spread of the virus in Sri Lanka.
The Minister also stated that the Government is keen to continue the children’s education but the priority presently was to safeguard the health of the students.
He further noted that at least a three day notice will be given before the re-commencement of schools.
The Minister said the decision was taken following discussions with health authorities.
