Gangster arrested with drugs, cash

A 23-year-old accomplice of a notorious criminal gang member was arrested by the Police Special Task Force (STF) on Thursday.

The suspect, identified as Thavasidevan Pradeep Kumar, was arrested on Thursday (May 06) at the Aluth Mawatha Road in Colombo 15.

The arrest was made based on a tip-off received by the Organized Crimes Prevention Unit of the STF.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said, “The Special Task Force has conducted a special

 operation in the Bloemendhal area on Thursday morning and the STF officers had arrested a 23-year-old suspect along with 2 kg of ICE and 4.5 kg of Hashish. The STF officers had also recovered Rs.400,000 from the possession of the suspect and it is believed he had earned this cash through drug trafficking.”

The STF had also recovered a mobile phone from the possession of the 21-year-old.

The arrestee and the seized items have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.

According to the Police Spokesman, the infamous gangster ‘Suresh’ operates the drug syndicate run by the notorious gangster ‘Kimbula Ela Guna’ from overseas. “Further investigations are underway and it has been revealed that the drug trafficking business is being controlled by Kimbula Ele Guna who had fled to India several years ago and his brother Suresh,” the DIG said.

Further investigations are under way and the Police Narcotics Bureau will be assisting the investigations.The value of the recovered drugs has been estimated at approximately Rs.25 million.
