Police Media Spokesman, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Attorney-at-Law Ajith Rohana said that strict legal action will be taken against persons including any individual or hotel owner or manager, violating quarantine regulations and providing accommodation to a person or group of persons arriving from another province.
Travelling between provinces has been restricted to prevent Covid from spreading and creating clusters and sub-clusters and Police will check all vehicles as well as persons travelling in them at all provincial borders.
The Police Media Spokesman said that all trips for enjoyment, visits to friends and relatives, religious pilgrimages and weekend outings have been totally banned and to refrain from engaging in such travel.
It is possible for vehicles and members of essential services to travel between provinces and their identity will definitely be checked. The Police Media Spokesman said that this opportunity to carry out their official duties should not be misused and if they have travelled between provinces for a non-official or personal reason and it is revealed, legal action will be taken against these people.
A group of persons or an individual engaged in essential services can travel from one province to another and seek accommodation and the owner or manager of the place providing it should inform the closest police station and the Medical Officer of Health about persons being given accommodation and obtain permission, the Police Media Spokesman, emphasized.
