Sri Lanka cricketers resume training for Bangladesh tour

The 18-member Sri Lanka One Day International (ODI) squad for the tour of Bangladesh have already entered into a bio bubble from May 10 at the Taj Samudra Hotel in Colombo.

A senior official of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said the squad commenced their practices from May 11 at the R. Premadasa Stadium under strict health regulations.

The Sri Lanka ODI Squad is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on May 16 and will undergo a complete three-day quarantine period.

Their first practice session will be on May 19 at the National Cricket Academy Grounds, adjacent to the Stadium.

The practice match prior to the ODI series will be played at the BKSP on May 21.

The ODI’s will be played on May 23, 25 and 28 within a bio-bubble stretching between the team hotel and the Shree Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.

Meanwhile, 40 Sri Lankan cricketers have been selected to receive the first jab of Russia’s Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine.

The official of SLC said the 18-player-Sri Lanka-squad were vaccinated last Sunday and the rest of the players are expected to be vaccinated within this week.

Sri Lankan team players and officials, support staff for the Bangladesh tour have been strictly under health regulations before this tour while the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have already made arrangements to provide both teams with the necessary safety guidelines. Sri Lankan will become the second international team to arrive in Bangladesh since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The BCB successfully hosted the West Indies last January-February in a three-match ODI series and a two-match Test series in Dhaka and Chattogram. Bangladesh has been under a lockdown since April 15 and the international flight suspension ended on May 1 but the country’s lockdown has been extended till May 16 which will be the Sri Lankan team arrival date for the ODI series.
