Ranil to Parliament

The Working Committee (WC) of the United National Party (UNP) had unanimously approved a proposal during its meeting yesterday to nominate party leader and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe as the UNP National List nominee for Parliament.

Party Chairman Vajira Abeywardena moved the motion while former Minister Ananda Kularatne passed the motion. All members of the Working Committee were of the view that Ranil Wickremesinghe should go to Parliament as soon as possible and contribute to building a strong Opposition force.

Those present at the meeting expressed desire that Wickremesinghe’s mature experience could contribute towards strengthening the Opposition.

In response, Ranil Wickremesinghe has said that he would take the right decision at the right time.

Due to the travel restrictions imposed, the members of the UNP working committee had limited their numbers to 20. They had all obtained approval of the police and attended the meeting adhering to health guidelines, a Working Committee member affirmed.

Meanwhile, five new members were appointed to the UNP Working Committee.

Dinuk Colombage, Saman Ratnapriya, Kithsiri Manchanayake, R. Yogaratnam and S. Rajabdeen were newly appointed to the Working Committee.
