Rural Roads and Other Infrastructure State Minister Nimal Lanza said that 73,225 people in the Wattala and Negombo Electorates have been vaccinated to control the COVID-19 pandemic.

State Minister Lanza was commenting on the vaccination in Wattala and Negombo at a meeting in Wattala recently.

He said that 38,225 persons in the Wattala Electorate and 35,000 persons in the Negombo Electorate have been given the first dose.

The Government will vaccinate the relevant age groups as indicated by the World Health Organization (WHO) despite the allegations by the Opposition. The vaccination is being carried out successfully and steps have been taken to implement the programme without causing inconvenience to the public.

State Minister Lanza said that the public interest in vaccination is more important in controlling the pandemic than that was in the first wave of COVID.

State Minister Nimal Lanza said that the necessary support will be provided to the health staff to make the vaccination a success through the Rural Development Committees that are operating under the District Development and the Regional Development Committees.
