Environment Minister Mahinda Amaraweera said that Ministers and Parliamentarians have a responsibility to encourage health workers who are committed to fight against COVID pandemic.

Minister Amaraweera said that Parliamentarians have a responsibility to take care of and encourage the health personnel in the fight against COVID 19 pandemic.

The Minister launched a programme to provide packs of essential commodities including sanitary items to the health staff and family healthcare personnel at the medical offices in the Hambantota District. The packs were distributed to the staff of the Tangalle, Ambalantota and Walasmulla MoH Offices.

The Minister also met the employees and inquired about their shortcomings. Each pack included healthcare materials, food items, face masks and sanitary items.

The Minister commended the commitment and dedication of the health officers to save the people from the pandemic. “Many still think that protecting the people is just a part of these officers’ duty. But it is not fair to look down on the mission of the health sector.

Without the commitment of the health staff, our entire country would still be a cemetery.

“Some of our people have neglected their social responsibilities. They do not follow the instructions given by the health sector and the Government.”
