Chandimal's birthday party: Seven arrested and granted bail

Seven more persons were arrested this morning for attending a birthday party at a five star hotel in Colombo recently organized by Chandimal Jayasinghe and they were later granted bail after they were produced in the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said that six of the seven persons who were granted bail were sent to the Passara quarantine centre for a 14-day quarantine process.

Among those arrested were three males and three females and the other arrestee, who is Chandimal’s elderly mother has been quarantined at home, he said.

DIG Ajith Rohana said that the Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) had conducted investigations into the party incident at a five star hotel in Colombo and 15 suspects were arrested in connection with the incident.

With today’s arrests, 21 arrestees have been directed to the Passara quarantine centre, including Chandimal Jayasinghe and Piumi Hansamali while one elderly persons is being quarantined at home and one person is said to be evading arrest. Among those who were arrested are six females.

Chandimal Jayasinghe and Piumi Hansamali had been accused of organizing a birthday party at a five-star hotel in the Galle Face area on the night of May 30, in violation of quarantine rules.
