Kandakadu Quarantine Centre converted as an ICC

The hitherto functional Army-maintained Kandakadu Quarantine Centre (QC) was recently converted to serve as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) with dedicated commitment of the troops of the Security Forces-East and troops under command to the Forward Maintenance Area-East (FMA) under the supervision of Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commander, Security Forces-East and Brigadier T. M Abeyrathne, Commander, FMA-East.

General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the brainchild behind enhancing of the bed capacity and ICCs in line with the sudden increase of infected ones around the county, instructed Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commander, Security Forces - East to take prompt action for the conversion of this QC within a few days.

Brigadier T.M Abeyrathna, Commander, FMA visited the Kandakadu ICC on Tuesday (1) where about 253 COVID -19 patients were still receiving recovery treatment. He instructed the staff to maintain high standards after the conversion too.

Few senior officers of the FMA HQ-East also joined the visit.
