The Army-maintained Kandakadu Quarantine Centre (QC) was recently converted to serve as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) with dedicated commitment of the troops of the Security Forces-East and troops under command to the Forward Maintenance Area-East (FMA) under the supervision of Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commander, Security Forces-East and Brigadier T. M Abeyrathne, Commander, FMA-East.

Chief of Defence Staff, Army Commander and Head, National Operations Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) General Shavendra Silva, the brainchild behind enhancing of the bed capacity and ICCs in line with the sudden increase of COVID-19 patients instructed Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commander, Security Forces - East to convert this Quarantine Centre within a few days.

Brigadier T.M Abeyrathna, Commander, FMA visited the Kandakadu ICC on Tuesday (1) where about 253 COVID -19 patients were still receiving recovery treatment. He instructed the staff to maintain high standards after the conversion too.


The Kandakadu Quarantine Centre which has been  converted to serve as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC).
