Matale traders exploit travel restrictions to raise prices of goods

Several traders in the Matale District have used the ongoing travel restrictions as a means to raise the prices of essential goods illegally. Residents complained that the price of 1kg of nadu rice has been raised from Rs.100 to Rs.120, and that many other commodities have seen similar price hikes.

Several vegetable vendors were also said to have raised the prices of their goods recently. Residents said that it has become impossible for them to buy goods with this prevailing issue. They urged the authorities to take immediate action.
