Proper management of jabs can reduce deaths by 90 percent - GMOA

With the proper management of 10 million doses of COVID 19 vaccines more than 90 percent of deaths related to the illness can be avoided, Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) Secretary Dr. Senal Fernando said.

He said to reduce deaths, priority should be given to pregnant mothers and those over 60 years of age and those with Non-Communicable Diseases under 60 years. He said that there are between 3.7 and 4 million people in those groups who need to be vaccinated and if they are given priority for vaccination, the number of deaths can be reduced by 90 percent.

In addition, he said, the group providing essential services was around 1.5 to 2 million and that vaccinating them would help sustain the economy.

He also said that if the number of vaccines received in the country for the control of Covid is used with proper management, it will be possible to control the pandemic successfully.
