Navy directed to provide security to X-Press Pearl

The Sri Lanka Navy was directed by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court to provide security to the sinking ‘X-Press Pearl’ cargo ship.

The Colombo Magistrate’s Court had issued this directive to the Commander of the Navy yesterday.

Meanwhile, Navy divers had inspected the ship’s underwater fuel tanks to see if there was any oil leakage, but rough seas and poor underwater visibility have hampered Navy divers’ attempts to detect any fuel leakage from the damaged ship.

Navy spokesman Captain Indika de Silva said Navy divers had searched for any leakage from the ship on Sunday and yesterday, but had not detected any fuel leakage.
