Ranil’s nomination handed over to NEC

United National Party (UNP) General Secretary Palitha Range Bandara yesterday (16) nominated the name of Party Leader and former Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to the National Election Commission (NEC) for the National List seat.

Ranil Wickremesinghe is scheduled to be sworn in, in Parliament on June 23.

He was requested by a number of parties to be elected to Parliament for the National List seat to fill the gap left by the absence of a strong Opposition in Parliament.

He has been a Member of Parliament from 1977 to 2019. He has been the Prime Minister five times and is an experienced politician who has held a number of powerful ministerial posts.
