Sixteen year old Chathuranga Kalhara Hettiarachchi is an outstanding soccer player as well as an up and coming athlete who is a Grade 11 student of Dharmaraja College,Kandy. He started his football career at the age of nine years under the qualified National Soccer Coach , M.T.Korana attached to the Ministry of Sports. During his seven years of playing Soccer, Chathuranga has turned-in some outstanding performances winning a number of Best Player awards in soccer and leading his team to victory in many Football

Tournaments and he was adjudged the Best Player of the team at the Kandy District Football tournament in the years 2016, 2018 and 2019

In addition Chathuranga led his School Football team as well as the Ampitiya Sisu Sports Club Soccer team to victory at the Kandy District Secretariat Soccer tourney, Inter-Club tournament and Kandy Futsal Football tourney.

His School team became Runners-up at the Inter School Soccer tournament held in 2018 and 2019 in the Under 16 age category and he played as an attacker of the team.

As an athlete he participated at the Junior Sir John Tarbot Athletic Meet in 2016 & 2017 as an under 12 and under 14 Athlete and won Merit Awards in 100 metre & 200 metre races. In the year 2019 he secured second place at the Under 15 Long Jump event and received a Merit Award for 80 metres Hurdles and in 2018 he received a Merit Award for his performances in Athletics at the Colours Award Ceremony of Dharmaraja College,Kandy.

His main ambition is to play for the National Football Team and to become a professional football player in future and he says that as he is 16 years old he has enough time to improve his Soccer and Athletic ability. His favourite Soccer Player is Polo De Bala of Argentina. Chathuranga is thankful to his Coach, M.T.Konara and his family members for the support and guidance given to him to improve his sports career as well as his studies.
