PM to inaugurate projects in Jaffna

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will be in Jaffna from July 31 to inaugurate several development projects.

Prime Minister’s Coordinating Secretary G.Cassilingham tweeted that the Premier will undertake a two day visit to Jaffna on July 31 and August 1 and this will be his first visit to the district since the SLPP Government was elected last year.

According to political sources Prime Minister Rajapaksa will inaugurate the second phase of the development work of the Velanai town in addition to several other key development programmes.

Velanai has been selected from the Jaffna District under the 100 Cities Development Programme and has been recommended by Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda.

During his two-day visit to Jaffna, the Prime Minister will hand over land deeds to 182 newly resettled families in Jaffna, lay the foundation stone for the construction of 34 houses, launch a drinking water project in Nagadeepa and hand over two houses built in Jaffna to its owners. He will also initiate several other development projects. The Prime Minister will also attend the opening ceremony of the Navatkuli Temple in Jaffna and a religious programme at the Nallur Kovil.
