Alexis Vega powered a header into the net for the first goal of the Men’s football Tournament of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics as Mexico defeated France 4-1 at the Tokyo Stadium yesterday. The man from Guadalajara converted just two minutes after the restart from a Diego Lainez right-wing cross.

Uriel Antuna (80th minute) and substitute Eduardo Aguirre (injury time) each found the net to run up the score.

Over in Ibaraki, Chris Wood’s lone goal was enough to propel New Zealand to a 1–0 win over Republic of Korea. It was their first win at an Olympic Games.
