Dahamdi into second-round of Asian Chess Tourney

Promising chess player Sanudula Dahamdi reached the second-round of the Under-15 Girls’ event at the Asian Schools Online Rapid Chess Championship, which continued yesterday.

She has scored five points out of six games to come up in this event.

Agnus Chong of Malaysia is leading in this age group with six points out of six games and she will meet Sanudula in the seventh round today.

Earlier, Sanudula beat Sod-Erdene Naranbaatar (Philippines), Rumethma

Tennakoon (Sri Lanka), Srawanan Nithyasree (India), Guptha Yashasvi (India) and S. Kanishka (Sri Lanka) to collect five points but lost to Jercy Marticio of the Philippines during the first six rounds.

Meanwhile, Oshini Gunawardena with 4.5 points out of six games has a considerable chance of reaching the top three in the Under-9 Girls’ category.

Esandi Newansa with 4.5 points also has a chance to reach the top.

The Asian Schools Online Rapid Chess Championship 2021 is conducted by the Asian Chess Federation and organised by the Philippines Chess Federation for Girls’ Under 7, 9, 11, 13, 15 and 17 events.

A total of 366 players from 24 countries are competing with India, Iran and Sri Lanka fielding the 48 competitors each.
