GCE O/L 2021 exams postponed to February

The Education Ministry has decided to postpone the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination 2021 to February 2022, in view of the COVID-19 situation in the country, Education Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris said.

He was speaking at a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday. The G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination (2021) was scheduled to be held in January 2022.

According to the new time frame, the examination will commence on February 21, 2022 and continue until March 3, 2022. He said that the vaccination of academic and non-academic staff in schools is being carried out successfully throughout the island.”

We can be very satisfied with its progress. As of yesterday morning, 77% of all academic and non-academic staff in the island had been vaccinated.

That is, 222,940 members have been vaccinated,”he said. “We will do our utmost to resolve the issue of teacher’s salary anomaly. This is an issue that has been nagging for 24 years. However, our government is looking at this issue very sensitively. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa’s ‘Prosperity Vision’ Policy Statement directly addresses this issue. I also hope to submit a Cabinet paper on this issue to the Cabinet. We hope to discuss and resolve this issue with the teachers’ unions also”, he added.
