Residents of Kataragama lose livelihoods

Kataragama residents said that their livelihoods in jeopardy as pilgrims do not visit the sacred city because of the COVID pandemic.

They depend on supplying food and lodging for the pilgrims.

Many sell fruit as offerings, while many others guide the pilgrims to important locations in the city.

The pilgrims do not stay at hotels and guest houses and do not have meals being at hotels and restaurants. However, many people can be seen at banks to pawn their valuable assets.
