SJB, JVP and TU organised protests cause for COVID-19 spread - DEJP

The Deshapremi Eksath Jathika Pakshaya (DEJP) - (Patriotic United National Party) states that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB), the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) and Trade Unions are responsible for the rapid spread of COVID-19 in the country by organizing protests.

Issuing a statement, the DEJP said that those parties and Unions must apologize for the havoc they created in the country.

"We would like to remind the people that at a time when there were around 2,500 cases and around 50 deaths daily, the protests across the country were organized by the SJB, the JVP, the Opposition and the so-called organizations that now shed crocodile tears over corona patients and deaths", the statement read.

Deshapremi Eksath Jathika Pakshaya' further in the statement said that the opposition and the trade unions, which organised the so-called protests without regard to any of the guidelines and recommendations issued by the Director-General of Health, must accept responsibility for the current unfortunate situation.

Moreover, it said that these protesters did not even obey the court orders banning the island-wide protests at the expense of the country and the people. And these protests that took place island-wide multiplied the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

"It is a shame that the TV actors of the Public Health Inspectors' Association, which is proposing a 'self-lock down' program for the people today, are trying to be heroes for the people, but they were also following a policy of silence in the face of the protests which dragged the country to this state", the statement read.

Adding to that, it read that SJB, JVP, Frontline Socialist Party and Trade Unions are fully responsible for deaths and cases that rise each day. “They organized protests calling on farmers and teachers to the streets with the sole aim of achieving their political objectives.”
