Galle Police arrested a Galle Municipal Council (GMC) Community Development Officer with a stock of marked Vaccination Certification Cards issued after administering COVID-19 vaccines in his possession.
Police arrested the officer on a tip-off alleging that the person was selling those that are marked certification cards to persons who have not got their jabs. The suspect was arrested with 45 cards. However when the GMC Medical Officer was asked by the police he had said that some unused cards after a vaccination programme had been kept under his custody to be used later.
Subsequently the suspect was released on police bail with instructions to appear at any time he was summoned to the police.
Commenting on the incident Galle HQI Kapila Senapathi De Silva said that investigations were being carried out to ascertain whether he had traded these cards for money.
