New Kelani Bridge lights up

The lighting systems set up at the new Kelani Bridge was tested last evening by the Highways Ministry.

The bridge is erected on an engineering design known as extradosed type, using stay cables to connect the two main pylons with the bridge deck and to share the weight of the loads from the bridge deck.

The Highways Ministry shared pictures of the illuminated new Kelani Bridge.

In 2014, then President Mahinda Rajapaksa in his capacity as the Highways Minister had initiated the New Kelani Bridge project.
