Bourse indices in upward trend

Colombo bourse indices witnessed an upward trend yesterday with the news that the country is likely to gradually reopen starting next Tuesday (21) whilst turnover recorded comparatively thin volumes with local retail investor interest.

Thus, All Share Price Index increasedby155.7 points (+1.8%) to close at 8,692.6 whilst S&P SL20 Index also increased by 61.3 points (+1.9%) to close the day at 3,265.4. Expolanka Holdings, LOLC Holdings, Browns Investments, Commercial Leasing & Finance and Dialog Finance remained as the top positive contributors to the ASPI during the day.

Further, broader market’s total turnover stood at Rs. 3,589.3 mn against the 12-month average daily turnover of Rs. 3,956.8 mn, whilst the volume traded for the day was 148,747.4k against the 12-month average daily volume of 215,059.2k.Transportation, Capital Goods and Food and Beverage sectors mostly contributed to the day’s turnover.

The top traded counters for yesterday were Expolanka Holdings Rs. 1,577.6 mn (+6.0%), Browns Investments Rs. 541.3mn (+4.7%), LOLC Holdings Rs. 124.5mn (+3.0%), Nestle LankaRs.120.0mn (-7.8%)and Hatton National BankRs.116.8mn (+2.4%). Further, off-board transactions were witnessed in Nestle Lanka (Rs.120.0 mn) and Hemas Holdings (Rs.20.3mn).
