Crematorium sought for Batti

Batticaloa Government Agent K.Karunagaran said that the area urgently needs a crematorium. He said that residents of the area are urging the responsible authorities to construct a crematorium at the Kaliyankadu Cemetery and the Alayadichcholai Cemetery.

He was speaking at a meeting in Batticaloa last week. Batticaloa Mayor Thiagaraja Saravanapavan, Regional Director of Health Services Dr. Nagalingam Mayooran and Director of the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital Kalaranjani Ganasalingam were present.

The number of COVID deaths is very high in the Batticaloa District. Health sources said that 27 persons died of COVID have been cremated so far in the districts. Batticaloa Teaching Hospital Director Dr. Kalaranjani Ganasalingam, therefore, has requested Batticaloa Municipal Mayor Thiagaraja Saravanapavan to set up a crematorium in Batticaloa soon.
