Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage yesterday assured that no pathogenic microorganisms harmful to plants, animals and human beings are contained in Organic fertilizers imported to the country.
The Minister alleged that there is a conspiracy by the chemical fertilizer companies to mislead the farming community by spreading false information on organic fertilizer.
He further said that a full investigation is to be carried out on receiving different test results of the samples of organic manure imported from the same company.
The Minister was speaking at a media briefing held yesterday at the Ministry of Agriculture. Organic nitrogen and potassium fertilizers required for the Maha season will be fully imported by the last week of October and distributed free to farmers, the Minister said. The Minister said that arrangements have been made to distribute 500 kgs of organic nitrogen fertilizer and 45 kgs of organic potassium fertilizer per hectare to paddy farmers free of charge.
