A 30-year-old constable had died in a hit-and-run accident in Kottukachchiya last Friday night.
He was attached to the Anuradhapura Police IT Division. He was returning home from work when the accident occurred, Police said.
The deceased, Shashi Gayashan, was a father of one, resident of Mallankulama, Kottukachchiya.
The vehicle, which knocked the constable, has not been identified yet. Puttalam Police are investigating.
Constable Gayashan had completed 11 years in the Police Service and served at the President’s Security Division and the Jaffna Police.
His wife is a Nurse at the Puttalam Base Hospital and their daughter is one-year-old.
