The Police Special Task Force (STF) recovered 1,529 rounds of ammunition and several other military items from an abandoned well in the Theerthakarai area in Mullaitivu on Saturday.
On a tip off received by the STF Mullaitivu, the officers had searched a well and recovered the ammunition.
The ammunition and other material were placed in plastic bags in the well.
The STF has handed over the ammunition to the Mullaitivu Police. The Mullaitivu Police are conducting further investigations.
