Kurunegala small-scale dairy farmers appeal for better price

About 20,000 small-scale dairy farmers of the Kurunegala District appeal to the authorities to offer them a higher price for their liquid milk since the prices of powdered milk manufactured locally too have gone up in the open market, said Kurunegala District Dairy Farmers Association Chairman J.M. Ariyaratne in Kuliyapitiya yesterday. Meanwhile, Milco Company Ltd. has made arrangements to offer dairy farmers a higher price for their liquid milk.

Milco Company Ltd Chairman Lasantha Wickramasinghe has planned to increase the price of a litre of liquid milk by Rs.7. He has informed his decision in a Circular to all Managers of Liquid Milk Collecting Centres in the Kurunegala District.

He also appeals to the people to consume more fresh liquid milk instead of powdered milk as liquid milk doesn’t contain chemicals that are used in the production of powdered milk.
