Teachers’ strike ends

* Teachers, Principals to report to work on Oct 25
* TUs say demands will continue
* Some schools slated to open on Oct 21

The Principals’ and Teachers’ Trade Union Alliance has decided to inform principals and teachers to report to work on Monday, October 25.

Although the Government had decided to begin schools with less than 200 students on October 21, the TU alliance, which met yesterday had decided not to attend schools on October 21 and 22.

Speaking to media in Colombo yesterday, the TU alliance members said principals and teachers attending the schools does not mean the strike is over per se. The struggle for their demands will still exist, the Alliance stressed.

On Monday onwards the Principals and the Teachers will engage in their duties at their best for the sake of the students, the TU representatives said. However, the trade union action will continue until the Government addresses their demands.

The trade union action by the Principals’ and the Teachers’ Unions completed 100 days yesterday.
