Twenty one Hambantota LG members rejoin UNP

Twenty-one Local Government representatives in the Hambantota District who left the United National Party (UNP) and joined the Samagi Jana Balavegaya (SJB) have expressed their willingness to rejoin the UNP.

Subsequent to a discussion held with United National Party Chairman Vajira Abeywardena, at Ambalantota, Nonagama on November 21, nine representatives joined the UNP to work with them. Among those who joined the UNP were a Tangalle Municipal Councillor, Mohamed Shiras, Hambantota Municipal Councillors Dinesh Dharshana, M. Mohamed Rizan, Sharifdeen Faris, S. Aruna Shantha and Mohamed Samsudeen, as well as Tissamaharama Pradeshiya Sabha member A.P.Dhammika, Tangalle Pradeshiya Sabha Member Saman Kumara and Ambalantota Pradeshiya Sabha Member Ahmed Shakur.

A disciplinary committee of the UNP carried out an inquiry against these members who had while being members of the UNP supported the SJB. During the discussion held with Vajira Abeywardena they had submitted an affidavit and agreed to actively work with the UNP.
