Fifteen year old, Twin sisters.Thewmali Omalja and Vidushi Thewanja Kotuwegedara are two talented Athletes of Vihara Maha Devi Vidyalaya,Kandy who started Athletics in the year 2016 under the coaching of Sanjeewa Weerakkody at the age of eleven years in the Under 13 age group. At the Under Twelve School Athletics Championship in the year 2016 Themali came second at the 100 metres and in the years 2017/2019 she won the Under twelve 100 metre event at the same Championship. At the Zonal Championship she came third in the 100 metre event and in 2018 In the Provincial Competition she won the Long Jump event by setting a new record of 4.50 metres and In 2019 again in the Provincial Meet she won the 80 metre event and set a new record. In the All Island Athletic Championship she finished fourth and in the Youth Asian Athletic Championship in 400 metre hurdles she finished second in the year 2021.

Her twin sister Vidushi Thewanja became the best Athlete for two years in 2019/2020 in the Under thirteen and Under 14 age category at the School sports competitions. She has won second place in the High Jump and 80 metre hurdles and her school came second in the Zonal competition. Again she won the second place in the 80 metre and 100 metre events at the Zonal and Provincial championships. In 2018 at the John Tarbet All Island Athletic Championship she got the third Place in the 200 metre event.and also in the Kandy District Athletic Meet

In the year 2019 she won the first place in 100 and 200 metres and she became the Best Athlete in the Under thirteen age category. At the All Island National Schools Athletic Championship in the year 2019 she got the third place and both of them are bright students and they hope to study well to go to the highest level while continuing their ability in athletics to become International level Athletes.
