Increasing exports, the solution to the Dollar crisis - State Minister

State Minister Arundika Fernando said India the nearest country to Sri Lanka, has increased fuel prices 30 times in the recent past and the government did not increase fuel prices in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also added that the existing difficulties will be avoided by developing the export industry in the future. The State Minister said this while participating in the opening ceremonies of the Coconut, Kitul and Palmyrah Products Exhibition at the Wennappuwa Pradeshiya Sabha premises.

“In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, a number of countries around the world have increased fuel prices on several occasions. In comparison, such a situation was not allowed in our country.

“It is understandable that the public has to face various issues at a variety of levels but the government is always trying to empower low-income families and boost the export industry by providing large sums of money under livelihood development programmes.

We will not be able to see the results within a short period of time but in the future we are confident that by developing the export industry, a significant contribution to the country’s economy and solutions to the crisis situation in the country will be seen,” State Minister Fernando added.
