Principal further remanded on bribery charges

The Principal of a leading school in Gampaha who was arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption while accepting a bribe of Rs.200,000 was further remanded till January 18 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Buddhika C. Ragala yesterday.

The suspect is a resident of Bomulla. When the matter was taken up, Attorney-at-Law Sanjaya Gamage appearing on behalf of the suspect informed the Magistrate that his client be released on bail as she was receiving treatment for a serious illness. The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) requested the Magistrate to further remand the suspect as their investigation had not been completed. The suspect had been arrested by CIABOC sleuths on December 23, 2021 when she was about to receive the bribe from the plaintiff at the school office, in order to admit the plaintiff’s child to Year 7 of the said school’s English Stream for 2022.
