Bhanuka withdraws retirement letter

Sri Lanka cricketer Bhanuka Rajapaksa has decided to withdraw his letter of retirement, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Secretary Mohan De Silva confirmed yesterday that Bhanuka Rajapaksa has informed the cricket administration of his decision to withdraw the letter.

The 30 year old dashing stroke maker Rajapaksa had informed the SLC in writing his decision to retire from international cricket on January 3rd However, Sports Minister Namal Rajapaksa had also made a public appeal calling on the young cricketer to reconsider his decision while several former cricketers, including Lasith Malinga and several of his fans called on the young cricketer to reconsider his decision. Meanwhile Bhanuka had met for a discussion with the Sports Minister at the Temple Trees on Wednesday (12) to discuss his decision to retire from international cricket.

It has also been reported that along with withdrawing his letter of retirement, Bhanuka has agreed to meet the standards of the SLC’s fitness tests. Meanwhile when the selection committee contacted yesterday they said Bhanuka was not participating at the last fitness test and therefore couldn't consider for the Zimbabwe ODI series but he has to do a fitness test before the next Australian T - 20 series to be considered for the selection.

Meanwhile wicket keeper Kamil Mishara who was named for the one day squad tested positive for Covid 19 and missed the series but selectors already have named stand by players and not yet decided on a replacement for Mishara.
