Alternative methods to acquire fuel needed for power generation sought - Lokuge

Power and Energy Minister Gamini Lokuge said yesterday that his ministry was looking at alternative methods to acquire fuel needed for power generation to provide an uninterrupted power supply.

The Minister said he had instructed officials to hold discussions with the LIOC for this purpose and that he would join the discussions if necessary.

Lokuge said that the Kelanitissa Power Plant has received 3,000 metric tons  of fuel and will be able to supply electricity without any interruptions until today (18).

He also said that discussions will be held with the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation to obtain fuel until the 22nd of this month.

He added that the decision on whether or not to interrupt power supply would be taken only if the talks failed and fuel was not available.
