Fuel for CEB to run thermal power stations released

Energy Minister Udaya Gammanpila yesterday said measures have been taken to supply diesel sufficient for eight days to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB).

He was responding to a question by a journalist at this week’s Cabinet media briefing held yesterday at the Government Information Department.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka released the amount in US Dollars to the Energy Ministry on Tuesday (18) allowing it to unload fuel from tankers that are docked at the Colombo Port.

“These vessels contain over 37,000 MT of diesel and I have already instructed the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) to supply 10,000 MT of diesel for electricity generation and the stock will be sufficient for a period of 8 days,”the Minister said. Responding to a question by a journalist over contradictory statements by the Power Minister, Minister Gammanpila said that if there is a power crisis that should have been solved internally and only the solution should be made public.
