Get COVID Booster jab without delay - Ministry

Only 33 percent of Sri Lankans have received the third dose (Booster) of COVID-19 vaccine, Co-Cabinet Spokesman Mass Media Minister Dullas Alahappruma said.

The Minister urged the public to take the third dose of COVID-19 vaccine without delay in order to prevent another wave since it is the only solution against the spread of the virus. COVID-19 Coordinator and Technical Services Director of the Health Ministry, Dr. Anwar Hamdani said steps will be taken to take legal action against those who do not take booster doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

He said the law was being enforced in developed countries around the world against those who do not get the booster vaccine, and that the law was enforced to encourage the public to take the vaccine and save their lives.

He said that by making it mandatory to take the third dose of COVID vaccine, it is expected that the lives of the people will be protected from the virus and that especially the elderly and people with chronic diseases can save their lives without complications even if they are infected with the virus.

He said that due to various misconceptions, some people reject the booster dose and those who have not yet received the vaccine should go to the nearest Medical Officer of Health Office or the main hospital.

The Epidemiology Unit reports that the third dose of COVID has been obtained by 4,925,961 people in the country.
