Havies in runaway 36-14 win over Army

Spirited Havelock Sports Club team ran riots as they beat the gallant Army outfit by 36 points (5 tries, 1 penalty, 4 conversions) to 14 (2 tries, 2 conversions) win in their SLR ‘A’ Division inter-club league rugby tournament first-round match played at Havelock grounds in Havelock Park yesterday. Havies led 19 points to 0 at half time.

After being contained in the first half of the game, the Army forwards along with their speedy three quarters led by inspirational centre Danushka Thalwatte who scored two superb tries and came up with a sterling display in the second half of the match to out play their counterparts in the loose and midfield.

But Havies hooker Ashmir Fajudeen was a source of inspiration to his entire team-mates with his spectacular loose play and capped a fine performance in the match by scoring three brilliant match winning tries in the game.

For the Havies Sports Club team, the five tries were scored by hooker Asmir Fajudeen (three), flanker Maleesha Madumewan (one), and full-back Mithun Hapugods (one), while the penalty and the four conversions were fired across by fly-half Sandesh Jayawickrma.

Army two tries were scored by centre Danushka Thalwatte while fly-half Tharindu Hettiarachchi slotted in the two conversions. Referee: Gihan Yatawara
