Spare A/L students from power cuts - Minister

Education Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said discussions were held with Electricity Board and the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) to discontinue power cuts during the GCE Advanced Level examination.

Minister Gunawardena was responding to a question raised by UNP MP Ranil Wickremesinghe in Parliament yesterday (23).

Wickremesinghe said students sitting for their Advanced Level Examination have faced numourous difficulties due to the extended power cuts. “It is not fair by these students. They have been inconvenienced due to this power cut. It would be best if we can suspend the power cuts until the end of the A/L examination,” Wickremesinghe observed.

“I thank the former Prime Minister for raising this issue. We had a discussion about this last night.

The Commissioner of Examinations and the Ministry of Education have already spoken to the Electricity Board and the PUCSL (Public Utilities Commission) to solve this issue in the best way possible,” Gunawardena said in response.
